In what was one of the president’s stranger campaign rallies, an unidentified individual in the crowd threw a book at Obama just after he wrapped up his remarks at the event in Philadelphia on Sunday.
An unknown guest in the audience, later identified as Juan James Rodriguez, 24, launched the book at Obama following his speech. In the video below, the book can be seen flying past Obama, who appears not to notice.
President Obama and Vice President Biden spoke before a crowd of about 18,000 supporters in Philadelphia as part of an upcoming tour designed to build momentum for Democratic candidates and close the ever-important enthusiasm gap between Democrat and Republican voters.
While the incident alarmed attendees, it was apparently harmless.
The president did not appear to notice the flying projectile, which was caught on video, though it did appear to miss him by only a few feet. It’s not clear what book in particular was thrown, or why.
In other strange rally news, police arrested a naked man who apparently was engaged in a publicity stunt for a website.
According to the Weekly Standard, the streaker was prompted by billionaire and social media guru Alki David’s pledge to pay $1 million to the first person who streaked at an Obama rally, so long as the streaker had David’s website written on his chest.
