Earthquake in Hawaii

Earthquake Hawaii

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake's magnitude was 3.6 and it struck at 2:12pm on Thursday, February 24, 2011. The temblor was centered 22 miles east-southeast of Honolulu, 11.8 miles deep. Initial reports put the quake at a 3.3 magnitude about 80 miles southeast of Honolulu with a depth of only 4.2 miles, but the USGS revised its initial report.

The Honolulu Star Advertiser is reporting the initial reporting discrepancy may be due to the scarcity of seismic recording instruments on Oahu. The cause of the quake may have been set off by the ocean floor flexing under the island's weight.
