“It was tremendously dark about an hour ago,” said Marilyn Cole, who was works at a nearby store. “It’s very, extremely hazy.”
The cause was still unknown.
Evacuation centers were set up in Boulder and in the mountain village of Nederland, and a shelter for livestock was set up at the Boulder County Fairgrounds in Longmont.
There are homes and cabins scattered throughout the area, as well as a few old mining towns. Authorities did not release an estimate on how many buildings had been destroyed so far. One fire vehicle was destroyed, said Patrick von Keyserling, a spokesman for the Boulder County Office of Emergency Management.
Authorities are currently working to put out the fire, but right now, details are still scarce.
